Evening of Roses (Chinese: 夜玫瑰; pinyin: Ya Mei Gui)is a 2008 Hong Kong film produced by Hong Kong director Ng See-Yuen. It was adapted from a novel from Taiwanese writer Pi Zhi Cai. This is alternatively known as Erev Shel Shoshanim.
Plot
It’s about a guy moving into a new apartment and his initially thorny but nice “landlord” has the Chinese name that sounds like “Evening Rose”. Xia Mei Gui(Ruby Lin) lets him rent one room of the apartment because her dog likes him. This “landlord” makes him remember his dream-girl in his university years who was his senior by one year. He remembers his senior as “Evening Rose” because of the Jewish dance “Evening Rose” and she has taught him how to dance.
As one can guess, being aware or not, he gradually falls in love with his “landlord”. But he’s a bit confused because the past “Evening Rose” keeps coming back to his mind overlapping with the picture of the present “Evening Rose”, who is so realistically in front of him and with him all the time. At the end, he realizes that his remembering the past “Evening Rose” is because “Evening Rose” reminds him of the feeling of love. He finally falls whole-heartedly into the arms of the present and real “Evening Rose”
